Here is some helpful language that you could use to compare things in English:

1. Comparative and superlative adjectives and adverbs:

  • short adjective     __er than; the __est
  • long adjective     more__ than; the most __  /  less __ than; the least __
  • irregular adjectives:

good / better than / the best
well / better than / the best
bad / worse than / the worst
far / further than / the furthest

2. Intensifiers before superlative adjectives:

a lot
(so) much
somewhat          __than
a little (bit)
no
not any

3. Comparing vocabulary:

as __ as / not as __ as
the same as / different from / to
similar to
compared to / with __; relative to __; in comparison with __
contrasting: while / whereas / although / however / but (conjunctions), conversely / on the
other hand / equally (adverbs)

4. Likes, dislikes, and preferences:

like + to + infinitive / gerund… more than __
dislike + gerund… more than __
love + to + infinitive / gerund… more than __
hate + to + infinitive / gerund… more than __
prefer + to + infinitive / gerund… to __
I’d rather + infinitive… than __

5. Comparing the past to now:

used to + infinitive (all verbs)…          but now / these days…
would + infinitive (if past time phrase is before would; not with state verbs)          but now / these days…
