Improve your Speaking Skills – Connected Speech Club 9

You’re welcome to join us for Connected Speech Club 9!

This week we begin with an explanation of the sound spine, after which we listen to Meredith Hughes from LibriVox reading an extract from Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie. As usual, we focus on the sound connections between the syllables and listen to how the speaker joins together the syllables, while all the time making the sound spine clear.

You’ll laugh – you’ll cry – you’ll learn more about connected speech when we slow down the recording as far as possible! This video is a MUST if you are interested in learning how to speak English like a native speaker!

This week we have A NORMAL CONVERSATION between John and Darryl. As usual, we examine the sound connections between the words to understand how to pronounce the sentences.

Darryl: John? It’s Darryl.

John: Hi, mate.

Darryl: How you doing?

John: Great. What about you?

Darryl: I’m fine. You know, I was just wondering – are you gonna get the bus tomorrow? You know, because the bloody trains are on strike?

John: I was thinking about not going in. Working from home. What – are you getting the bus, are you?

Darryl: Yeah. But what time is it?

John: I think it usually goes about ten to eight.

Darryl: Alright, mate. Cheers.
